Call it P&R, call it a management responsibility, but I call it a necessity that you do it yourself, for yourself, because Promotions of your artistic value to life................................................. is everything.

Promotions

Since promoting your talent is what gets you noticed, I will start off simple and share with you some prime examples of how to start from scratch to start to develop the you. Promoting yourself, your art, your talent, your ability, your you... seems a lot easier said then done no matter how you get the info.

One night during a Mary J Blige concert in Milwaukee, I was sitting on top of some speakers back stage with Puff Daddy and the Notorious Big crew taking pictures and conducting interviews, listening to the response to some questions the media had for Puffy about promotions. The question that got me was when a 13 year old girl from the audience asked " do you do this all yourself, or do you pay someone else to do this for you ?" this meaning, pushing your talent, being in the public eye. He was on stage as a support for Mary J. and he had a little part where he would run out and hype her up, and then jump back stage again. Puff said, " I am out on the streets every day with my crew promoting my music, I have a crew of 25 people that go with me every day, we sit on the corners passing out flyers, info, CD's, you name it, but we are out there and that is how we stay in your minds. At every show we do, we hit up the clubs with Mary and pass out CD's and our street team never sleeps, we want to be in your head all the time." Mind you, this was way before Puff Daddy was big, he was just learning the ropes on the Mary tour with Notorious Big. Basically what he is saying in a way is that when your out trying to make it, you have to prove that you are willing to sacrifice all of your free time to promote yourself, otherwise, there is someone else that will, and you will be forgotten. This picture being painted for you is the reality of any genre of entertainment style, you have to be out there with your talent, always in the public's eye. If you are an actor, practice your act outside with the people working on the scenes with you, it may look tacky, but people will notice and ask questions, this type of promotion will generate word of mouth, the best promotion you can get.

To start to promote yourself, starts with the product, what makes you the person you are. You start with the product, it's image, and the plan, or marketing plan. The marketing plan is the approach you take to get your product to the right people. So there it goes, your first answer to your How question........ start to set up a plan of how to move forward one step at a time.

Let's start out, your a singer and you ask. how do I even begin to start .... I can sing, and I have talent, what can I do ?   ......................   sound familiar ?
