Keeping Focus
_____________
When I first put together the show "The Bad Boy Broadcast" in Orlando, I had
to find a way to promote our show against our competition. We had a great
support staff, and as shown above, all on our team was eager to be out in front
of as many people as possible to build word of mouth. I can not mention enough
in this first chapter that being out in the public with your talent is
everything. In this picture above, my crew had never been on stage in front of
1000's of people, with the exception of DJ Skribble, but they learned fast how to adapt to the change from
entertaining in clubs for friends to entertaining 10,000 live. Once you focus on
your craft, acting, singing, talking, etc....... you will be able to perform
anywhere without thinking about the 10,000 people, but being in tune with your
focus on yourself.
Focus on your talent is step 2 of building yourself up.
1. discover your talent
2. formulate a plan to focus on
3. practice your art ( always ) everywhere you go
4. promote yourself ( shows ) word of mouth....
5. which will all help you build a buzzzzzzzzz
If you are a future
actor, stand in front of a mirror and read lines, write your own, act out parts,
re write written script from movies and act the part out yourself, and focus on
the emotion and action you are delivering in the mirror. I also suggest you
spend time in book stores and fun places that sell reading materials, and expose
yourself to as much new material as possible.... On the next page you actors and
writers will learn some new tools from an awesome writer named Amanda Bernero. If your a singer, sing
for people all the time, at weddings, parties, wherever you can sing for people.
If you are a painter, set up your craft at a fair, work out a deal with a booth
where you paint for people on the side and the stand gets a % of the money you
make, the same goes for a band you might be in. I used to teach drum lessons to
a friend of mine in high school, I used to notice how I would learn something as
i taught him something completely different. This is simply because as you
practice, teach, or perform, you are also constantly learning new and improved
technique, so therefore, it is about focusing on yourself that will help you
elevate your craft.
I made a suggestion to a friend of mine today as I was writing this chapter of
my book. My friend is helping promote the band I am working with and he asked me
what I thought about doing some free acoustic shows. My response was, since the band
is in LA, why not set up an acoustic set on Venice Beach, and play for tourists
while we hand out flyers. To get on the beach, let's go to a tattoo shop or
tobacco store and offer them 50% of the money people give to us for playing. This is creative focused promoting, and it
works! Focus to who you are and what you are about is everything. Building a
focus comes from a lot of work and soul searching as to who you really are, what
you really want to do in life, and how much energy and dedication you are going
to put into your work.
The next guest in this book talks about the importance of
focus, networking, and how it relates to building yourself up as an artist....
Meet Tara and see how she lives in Hollywood....
