Back to Lil Shawn ! Phil Michaels (Program Director) of the radio station was a little concerned that I had picked up some new kid, and I even included the pudgy kid of the bunch and called him... Pudgy. I was quite sure Phil had never had a talent like me to watch over and he was mainly concerned with how they would be compensated for being around the studio, but I assured him that my radio knowledge gained from past Bosses..... Don Parker, Bruce St. James, Mikey Freeman and company in Phoenix was enough to handle taking on and training this team and at no cost to the radio station. I made a deal with Lil Shawn and Pudgy right from day 1, if you show up every day on time, come in prepared, have passion about being on the air, put your energy into learning, and give me dedication; I will train you, and give you all the skills you need to change the name of my show, and when I leave Orlando, you will end up doing something big here. My one and only real on air rule for Lil Shawn in the beginning was...... every time I said his name, he had to say Wha whaaaaa .... Let's just say every Hispanic female in Orlando who didn't already know Lil Shawn, now knew him, and said Whaaaa Whaaaaaaaa every time they heard his name. This was name building, and it worked for our show perfect, and it can work for you if you assimilate a word with who you are, or a phrase to build your name up. Lil Shawn fit in perfect, and Pudgy learned to produce radio as well. The best benefit of having Lil Shawn around was not the women he attracted, but the acting skills he had developed and brought to the table, and even the voice impersonations he carried. Lil Shawn was a 100% pure talent that was just un discovered. There was even a time before I had met him that he tried to get the attention of a surrounding radio station to give him a chance to learn, and now he is beating that station in competition. Lil Shawn also developed a style of watching and learning the ropes.... He learned very quick how to handle in and out of studio responsibility. I was actually a little harder on him than most, but he learned and maintained my brutal studio sessions, but because of this, he remains a successful air talent. Again, being in the right place for Lil Shawn was his claim to fame, or his way to get ahead, but he didn't really know he was being watched when he was in the club the night that I met him. Dancers, models, actors, comedians, etc....... this is why it is so important to be yourself and be out in the public with your gift. I know it might be harder for some, such as architects, editors, and other entertainment specialties that require your work to be on a larger scale than pure person ability, but as you will come to find out, there are ways to have a direct results to your promotion of yourself even if your skill is a little more complex than singing or acting. To utilize this team as pictured above, we would go out on the streets as a team and meet as many people as possible. We handed out little home made flyers that said the name of our show, who we were, and what time to listen. We also set up car washes and community events so that people knew that we were also ready to give to the community.
