Being Prepared, Always!

I have this philosophy that has followed me all my life, everything happens
for a reason, everything, as a matter of fact, wherever you learned about this
book and everything you a learning happened for a reason. If your friend Becky
told you about this book, imagine if you never would have met her... That
is how Networking takes it's place in your road to success in the entertainment
business! I have mentioned networking a few times in this book, and up until now, you
heard the word and accepted it as meeting people or coming across them. Being in any form of business
means you are networking all the time in some way shape or form.
I was an intern
for a HUGE rock station called 93 Qfm in Milwaukee, Wi. While I was preparing for
a concert by the band Skid Row, the band decided to make a personal appearance
at the station which was on a Saturday night. Sebastian
(
lead singer ) decided to pay a surprise visit to the station to do an
interview for the promotion of his concert. It was such a surprise that the part
time person on the air ( wasn't prepared ) for doing a live interview. Media also caught on that Skid Row was making there way to the station, so of
course they wanted to also be involved in capturing some sort of coverage. The
part time person called our program director at the time to find out if there
was anyone else that could do the interview and of course a full time talent
came in to do the interview. I guess this would be the time to say to all of
you young up and coming talent, always dress the part, have your game face on, and
always be prepared for
surprises. This could have been one event where this part time talent proved
they had the ability to handle any situation. While the drama was going down, I
was busy taking pictures and getting business cards from the record reps, the
management, and of course getting a few radio station giveaways signed. This was
my networking time, the time to meet a few people that I might someday need to
call on for another event, maybe the manager might be managing another big band
in the future, future shows etc....... The part time girl learned a hard lesson
as the whole interview was taped and run on a local music show in North Chicago,
and our Program Director learned very quickly who not to count on in the
future.
Even if your an intern, on a set as an extra, or an assistant.... Always Dress
The Part ! Always be prepared for a surprise artist to pop into your world for
whatever reason. This is entertainment baby, always be prepared for the camera !
Next ....... A woman who used her networking and ability to always be ready for
the camera...... Meet Lil Kim !
