Presentations
___________________

Let's define presentation first! This is your resume, your audtion, your application, your art work you put up in a resturant, a film you submit to be seen, a script you submit to be read, a dance you prepare for a recital, etc...... Often, this is your first impression you give to someone who is usually judging your ability and artistic wealth. Thus said, make your first presentation sizzle ! If your a dancer, model, speaker, or writer, you may already be working on defining a good way to present yourself to the ones above that are searching for talent. It is safe to say the hardest part of a presentation is actually simply getting started.

We all have sooooo much information, content, and talent, that we are afraid of what to include or exclude. The first step in forming a presentation of whatever it is you are doing is to ( write it out ) Write out exactly what it is you want to do, form a plan, and then write out how you are going to accomplish your goal.  Almost as if you were giving a verbal speach of what you are about, why you are doing what you are doing, and how you plan to do it.

If you can answer these three things in this order (WHAT, WHY, and HOW) you will have a complete presentatio, and then you can build yourself up from the bottom.

What do I want a talent scout, casting director, audience, fans, or decision makers to know or understand about me ? then ask this question, what is the purpose of my presentation....... for instance, your a model, and you have a new trend setting fashion you spread at your school, and you want to present it, or maybe your a singer and you have a unique sound that you want someone to hear.... etc.... you get the picture, we are developing the  ( WHAT )

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MY PRESENTATION..... WHAT IS MY GOAL

You should always get to the point right away when you are making a presentation, so do the same thing in your audition. State information clearly early in your presentation as to what you are trying to do. I know you might be confused as you read this, because you might be reading this thinking, I am a dancer, at an auditon, I can't say what I want do accomplish before I dance on a stage in front of the three or four directors auditioning........ Your presentation should have started long before you got on stage, it should have started with your head shot, a brief description of who you are, and basic information that you submitted before you took the stage, and that is more important as a first impression then you getting on stage. If your submitted material says, ( I WANT THIS, THIS IS MY GOAL IN LIFE, I AM HUNGRY, I AM TALENTED, AND I AM GOING TO PUT MY ALL INTO THIS AUDITION ) you will capture the attention of the person that is auditioning you, and before you even step foot on stage, they will be waiting for you verses you waiting for their attention.

Example:

Let's say you are a model and your presentation is your portfolio you have just completed on your own. When a modeling scout opens up your portfolio ( your presentation should clearly state what it is you want to convey ) Obviously the first thing an agent in the modeling field is going to look for is the appearance, however, the other components in your presentation tell a story as to who you are, what you want to do, and what you are willing to do to achieve your goals. Thus, a cover letter will help you create a verbal presentation of you as well. This information can be universally adopted into any form of artistic goal you have, because entewrtainment is 50% about who you are, and 50% business related IE ... promotion of, marketing of, selling of..... however, if you are thorough in your ( presentation ) or portfoio, you will accomplish the business aspect of your presentation, because you will be promoting yourself, marketing yourself to a respected agent, and selling yourself as a person that is hungry to be successfull.
